Granito Supports Home Renovation Project for Former Teacher with Safe Solutions for All Generations
In the bustling life of Bogor city, a glimmer of kindness emerges from the spirit of alumni from SMA Regina Pacis. They worked together on a house renovation project for their beloved former teacher, who now lives in inadequate conditions. Granito is involved in this noble project by donating high-quality granite tiles from the Safetech series, which were specifically installed on the wheelchair ramp to ease access for the house’s occupant, who uses mobility aids.
Initiative from the Heart: When Respect Turns into Action
This house renovation project began with a visit from the SMA Regina Pacis alumni to the home of their former teacher. The house was in a deplorable condition: a leaking roof, damaged ceiling, dull walls, and bare cement floors.
“We initially visited as a multi-generation alumni group. When we saw the house, we could say it was in a state of dilapidation, not suitable for living,” said Handy Gumilar, the architect and the technical PIC of the project.
From this visit, the drive to take action was born. Alumni from various generations united, contributing funds and materials, until the project took off like a professional endeavor — complete with architectural design, scheduling, and budgeting planning.
Inclusive Design: Architectural Solutions for Wheelchair Users
One of the main challenges of the project was the old house design, which had many level differences in the floors, making it difficult for the occupant who uses a wheelchair.
“We decided to create ramps at several points because not everything could be made into a perfect staircase,” explained Handy.
These ramps became a crucial element in creating a home that is safe and accessible. To support this need, the technical team decided to use Granito Sanctuary Safetech, a granite tile product proven to be safe and non-slip even when wet.
Granito Sanctuary Safetech: More Than Just a Floor, but a Safety Solution
The choice of Granito Sanctuary Safetech was not made lightly. In addition to its high durability, its surface texture is smooth but provides maximum anti-slip effect, making it ideal for wheelchair users.
“When we tested it, we all agreed. We tested it with water and it remained slip-resistant. I personally stood on it, sprayed water with a hose, and it was still safe,” said Handy.
The presence of the ramp with Granito tiles is incredibly helpful when wheelchair users need to go up or down, as its surface prevents the wheelchair wheels from suddenly slipping, reducing the risk of accidents in the home.
With a total project duration of around two months, this renovation successfully transformed not only the structure but also the functionality and emotional value of the house.
“Granito provided a solution that was not only aesthetic but also functional, especially for a home with a resident who has special needs,” said Handy.
CSR Activities: Real Impact for the Community
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities like this demonstrate that collaboration between professionals and building material producers can bring tangible impacts to society. Through its contribution, Granito not only provided products but also supported inclusivity and safety in the home.
Granito Sanctuary Safetech is a prime example that design is not only about aesthetics, but also about function and empathy for the needs of the users.
